Plagioclase II by Shirimasen Plagioclase II by Shirimasen
Another plagioclase photomicrograph! This one is XPL, sans gypsum plate. Field of view is about 0.5 mm.

This photograph is a birthday present for my fellow geologist, ~Fuyu-no-sakura!

:iconfuyu-no-sakura:

She is a very talented nature and architecture photographer. A small sampling of said gallery:

She's one of the earliest of my supporters here on DA, so it'd mean a lot to me if you could take the time to check out her gallery and perhaps follow her.

Happy birthday! May you have many, many more to come. :]

This is why I love plagioclase.

It's really neat when you find a zoned plagioclase.

Aside from this one, I think I've only seen a plag this big in anorthosite thin sections. It's lovely. :]

You can get some really big plag phenocrysts in Andesites.

I might have seen some rather large ones in anorthosites as well; then again, those rocks are ALL plag, so it's hard not to get good ones. :D

My gosh, this one's beautiful! I love how colors compliment and support each other!

Why, thank you! The colors all compliment each other because many of the minerals here are the same type, they're just smaller than the main one. :]

I do encourage you to take more of macro photos (because I really like them)! But anyway, I always like everything you photograph. :D

I'll be sure to put up more in the very future. I don't have too much time longer when I have access to the microscope, unfortunately. Sad face. I'll have to take a couple of dozen and spread them out over the next few months. :D

Aw, hehe. I was interested in the earth sciences when I was younger (although more meteorology than geology). I actually only remembered that a few years after I started college for it. :]

Thanks! Minimal processing on this one -- I love when nature does her work for me. :]

You betcha. Plus, it makes the editing process a lot smoother. Then the only thing to do is resize the shot. (:
